More like quad core and atleast 4 gigs of ram, unless you plan on lagging around everywhere you go, and I agree with john on the graphics.

Whell about the 4 gigs of Ram is a little demanding, I would think about 1.5 gigs for minimum and max 2.5 gigs, also a high end dualcore will do the trick also for medium/high play,
For like max play I would suggest a quad-core Q8300 tops running at 2.5 Ghz will do perfect for max settings,
If it will be higher then that people will have problems and they will need to buy a new computer, and computers with that kinds specs will cost aroun 800 till 900 euro's in my country, ofcourse you can rebuild your computer but you'll have to upgrade ram and CPU, it's regular to have a Desktop with about 4 gigs of ram so the game will ask a little less, if I think logicly.

4 gigs ram is not uncommon on modern games for recommended system and actually sounds like a flawless guess on stuff's behalf though that is on RECOMMENDED and likely only on vista/ win 7 systems. I would not be shocked if xp was not supported, as its getting obsolete for gaming and DX10 sounds more likely for minimum though the screens were almost certainly DX11. DX9 is unstable and Bethesda has turned out enough unstable games with that cursed gamebryo engine, the repairation of that issue being part of the goal with the new engine.

I dont know why you would recommend a quad-core seeing as i doubt all cores will be utilized. I plan on buying a new pc just for this game :D i wana run it on max max. I rate bout 3 gigs ram would be tops. I have a 9800gt which up until now has run everything on ultra (except black ops which was just high) and il actually be disappointed if a 9000 series card can run this game near max. This must be the new generation of gaming and u gota step up or go back to emulators :P

Even a semi-optimized engine like the Gamebyro engine liked having more cores to run threads on, i mean look at battlefield bad company 2 it loves using all 8 not to the max but it greatly reduces load time and smooths out transitions in gameplay so there is no popping of LOD or textures and smooth as butter particle physics.

Unfortunately, software devs still support out of date tech long after it should have died. Honestly The Elder Scrolls game type (massive worlds you just wander aimlessly around) would benefit greatly from an x64 build if it was optimized right. Newer games should allow caching of as much game data as you want. Obviously the gamebyro engine might not have been able to handle it but not having to load everything from the hard drive every fast travel would have been nice. In this day and age where "Average" new computers are sold with 6 to 8 gb of ram and some of the high end motherboards support up to 48gb we should be able to dedicate large chunks of ram to support the large amount of textures games use now.

For recommended specs, I'd bet on something like:

Nvidia 460 ATI 5770, or the likes.

I'd say as long as you have :
2 gigs of RAM (3 for Vista/Windows 7)
12-15 gigs of hard drive space
A 2+ core processor clocking around 2.7 GHz
and a graphics card with at least 512 megs of video RAM
you can run it pretty well

Euan: yes, I expect that will be more than enough. It's a mid-level card, so maybe not too great for ultra-high settings, but for medium-high I don't think you'll have a problem so long as the rest of your system is half decent

Regarding CPU: published specs always tend to overestimate processor/RAM requirements: I bought an HD6770 for my old PC and it came with a free copy of Dirt 3. I was a bit disappointed when I read that Codemasters specified a 2.8 Ghz Athlon x2 as a MINIMUM requirement to run the game, as all I have is a 2.6 Ghz Athlon x2 5000+. I expected the game to be laggy and unplayable. Lo and behold, the game runs at a respectable 30 fps on HIGH settings, and up to the region of 60 fps if the settings are tweaked down to medium.

Sure a slow processor CAN be a bottleneck to a decent GPU, but in my experience, as long as it's at least a dual core processor from the last five or six years, and the rest of your system is reasonable, then an under-spec CPU will not make the game unplayable.

Im looking forward to play it on my GeForce 6600. Yes i will. Analizing demo footage i noticed the vegetation is static. That is very important for running a game on so weak card. Less things is animated on screen = better. Also a fact that the game stays on directx 9. Visually game looks like Oblivion and i can't see anything that could cause a problems. Shadows can be scaled as you like also. So don't worry guys the requirements should not be high. Otherwise Bethesda will fail at this aspect.

4GB of RAM (although I have Windows XP, 32-bit).

Runs almost every game on maximum. (Even GTA IV, it goes with steady FPS of 28.) The Witcher 2 is the only game that drops below 25 FPS on max, and even then it's only 20 FPS.

Yeeeaaah, your requirements there look a little too much like Oblivions. you probably got the CPU right. I expect skyrim to need ATLEAST 2GB of ram on Win7, and an Nvidia 9 series card.

OK PEOPLE 2 RAM = (Not very good...) 4 RAM = (Fair) 6 RAM = (Great) 6+ RAM = (Amazing) 512 MB VRAM = (Barely made it) 1 GB VRAM = (Good) 1+ GB VRAM = (Great) AMD Phenom II and Intel i5 or i7 should be fine, (should be 2.00ghz or more). If you ran Witcher II and/or Crisis II on uber settings you should be fine.

Ah… I'm a little disappointed at the min/max requirements for the game, because with the min/max requirements so low I don’t think that the graphics will be a world different than Oblivion, and even the min HDD reqs are soooooo low like 6GB? I was hoping at least 10GB or even 20GB but I know that Gamebryo doesn’t use such big textures as Rage does :P … And I bought a new Rig this year and now it’s going to be disappointed cause it won’t even start to sweat under the strain of the game. Our specs are similar. I have a system that I had built June 2010 with an i7-860, 4gb ram, ati 5770. About 6 months ago, I got another ati 5770 to try out crossfire.
It runs some pretty graphically intense games just fine, such as Battlefield BC2/Vietnam, Witcher 2, Crysis: Warhead, Dead Island to name a few. I've never complained about the speed or visual goodness.

Who knows how this game will run, at the end of the day it depends on how efficient the coding is.
Bear in mind, the 'Recommended' system specs. are for 'High' setting. For 'Ultimate' setting, the developer has stated you will need a pretty beast system. Although no details were given. I think it's great for those folks that have built a bleeding edge system, to take advantage of the hardware they've invested in. All those video settings give just about anyone/everyone a chance to try out the game.

I honestly can't believe any of these setting requirements. A brand new game like this and it can run on 2 or 3 year old systems on high? I really think some one is pulling our legs.

I had a talk with a guy who works at a particular store (not saying which one), and he told me that the game was going to be very intensive on computers, not just on graphics but on the cpu and memory. He said it will likely require 8 GB of ram just to run because the entire world needs to be loaded into memory at all times.

I don't know who to believe, but my gut feeling is that it will be more like Oblivion, requiring hardware that didn't even exist at the time. Although, i really don't wanna shell out for a new system right now, so lets hope my gut feeling is wrong.

A friend of mine, recieved a copy of Skyrim (to review the game) and he told me the specs are almost the same as for oblivion.
This is mainly because they created a new, more efficient engine.

Besides, xbox 360 came out more than 5 years ago and it still should be able to play the game with decent graphics. (which isn't possible if you need the most modern hardware)

Hi! I've got a Sapphire 3870 Ultimate 512 MB, 2GIGs of RAM, and Core 2 Duo E7400 @2,8GHz. I play the game in 1680x1050, no AA, High Settings, except the radial blur, which is medium. Nice FPS, but the water looks not so good. My friend plays the game with an ASUS 9400GT(!!!!) 1gig on LOW settings, and the water is beautiful!!! And no custom settings in the ini file! Just LOW. What is needed for the beautiful water effect?? I mean both cards are DX 10.

Hey guys, my graphics card broke when I got home with Skyrim (I know it sounds to awful to be true but it is) and I replaced it with my old Geforce 8400. I have 4 gigs of ram and a 2.51ghz dual core processor. I know it isn't the best set-up but even at the lowest settings the lag makes it unplayable. Ive been planning on upgrading my Graphics card but still. I understand the minimum requirements are to play it minimally but I can't play it at all. I meet or exceed all of the requirements. Any advice on what I can do to make it playable till I get a new graphics card?

Hello I bought Skyrim off of Steam but when I logged in everything was laggy, the dialogue didn't match the character expressions, and everything was extremely slow. I considered turning down the graphics on the game but realized that there is no settings option to do so. I quit the game and looked up my system info, everything checked out above or on par with the requirements listed here. If someone would PLEASE be so kind as to email me with a possible solution I would be more than grateful. I have waited for this game since Oblivion and my disappointment when I learned that I could not play it was crushing. Morrowind and Oblivion could both be purchased as a physical copy and installed without hassle, so I just assumed that Skyrim would too. If I wanted to be subjected to Steam's control I would have bought it through them, instead of waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

I'm going to attempt to get a refund from Newegg, who didn't list Steam or an internet connection as product requirements on their info page. The Newegg representative also said that Newegg posted all the info they were given by the publisher.

And I'll make sure to thoroughly check for DRM requirements in the future no matter how respectful the publisher has been of customers in the past.

Check out this site if your unsure if your system can run Skyrim or any game. It's pretty useful, it will tell you where your system passed the tests for the minimum and recommended spec so you'll know what you need to replace if anything to play a particular game i.e. Skyrim. Hope this helps.

Even though my system can handle the minimum system requirements I have it set to low settings on 800 x 500 resolution even though I can go 1920 x 1200 but Skyrim constantly blackscreen crashes with a full system reboot the only option possibly by PC could be on the way out but at 800 x 500 window mode not many problems and if it does crash the whole screen wont blackscreen crash . Bleak Falls Barrow reminds me of that movie Ice Station Zebra awesome game but still no real fix for blackscreen yet .

The low setting don't seem to be that bad its the style of graphics , I can have Jade Dynasty 2 on full ultra settings really very nice awesome graphics but in a different way .

I need some help, because the free RAM I have is about five times that of the required RAM, and I have DirectX 11 on my graphics card, vertex and pixel shader 4.0 (both), and overall all my specs surpass the requirements for Skyrim by at least 20 percent.
But, because I have an Intel HD Graphics card on an i3 Windows 7 computer (integrated), apparently, I can't run it.
I have over one hundred Gigabytes of free RAM, I have a DirectX that is two updates better, and I have all the necessary shaders and processors.
Is it because of the i3, the Intel HD, or what? (By the way, it's not a fancy Intel HD 3000, it's just the default Intel HD suggested as the 'best option' on the Dell website.)
Please, help me, because I feel a bit teased, because I'm hyped to play this with extremely high settings because my computers' specs are so much higher, and then I get shot down.

to all those asking if their PC will run it, my laptop runs it at ~15-20fps with 2GHz core 2 duo t7200, 256mb mobility radeon x1600, 2gb ram at 1024x768 on minimum settings, so most systems here will run fine (as long as it is a proper graphics card)

I have been running skyrim quite well, around 70-75 fps on amd athalon 2, amd hd 4200 graphics. 800X600 resolution and toned down effects really help alot. Anything higher then that resolution and most graphics cards are really processing alot of info. The processing power is important for this game due to a lot of variables being triggered at once, (I.e. the secret cave and copies of all items of the game.) I have yet to crash though. You need to have a card that translate well for this game or you will be stuck to low quality. Which I might add isn't bad, their isnt a vast difference from low settings to medium. Medium to Ultra though you can really tell where your taxing your system.

I've all of these and it still works like shit!
